Dr. Kevin Estes, the Director of Music Ministries and Organist at St. James Lutheran Church, holds a Master of Music from The Juilliard School. He is highly trained in organ and piano performance, orchestral and choral conducting, as well as composition. With broad experience in church music, Kevin has served as Music Director for congregations in various locations including New York City; Greenwich, Connecticut; Dalton, Massachusetts; Lancaster, Pennsylvania; and Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
In addition to his musical career, Kevin is a board-certified physician in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, with specialized training in Brain Injury Medicine. He currently practices medicine full-time in Charlotte.
Kevin is married to his wife, Jenny, and they have two young sons Judah and Luke.
The St. James Parish Choir is a dedicated group of parishioners and community volunteers who enrich our worship by leading congregational singing and performing diverse choral anthems from traditional and sacred music. With a legacy of musical excellence, the choir provides inspiring music at the 10am service each Sunday.
Rehearsals: Thursday 6:30-8:30pm
Sunday warm-up at 9:00am
Membership is open to anyone in 7th grade through adult
The Music Ministry hosts special concerts throughout the year along with performances by guest musicians.
The choir also sings at additional Holy Day Liturgies such as Christmas and during Holy Week.
The Handbell Choir offers a joyful opportunity to create music in a supportive church community. Beginners can quickly learn to play, while experienced musicians can enjoy the challenge of a new instrument. Together, our ringers strive for musical excellence and have plenty of fun along the way!

Many people assume you must be “really talented” to join a choir. In our church, we believe something simpler: if you have a willing heart and a desire to contribute, you belong here. The Parish Choir and Bell Choir do more than rehearse—they build community, support one another, and help lead the congregation in worship. You don’t need prior choir experience, and you don’t need to be able to “read every note.” You will be welcomed by friendly members who will help you get oriented, answer questions, and make sure you feel at home from your very first rehearsal.
