The Property Committee is entrusted with the stewardship of the church’s buildings, grounds, and related infrastructure. Our goal is to ensure that the physical property of St. James supports its mission, ministry, and long-term vitality.
Oversee the ongoing and recurring maintenance of the church’s facilities, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, and structural systems. Address repair needs promptly and manage a preventative maintenance schedule. In addition, preserve and protect the church’s historic structures and architectural features, ensuring that all work respects the building’s heritage and long-term integrity.
Ensure the upkeep of all exterior areas, including landscaping, signage, parking areas, and exterior lighting. Organize seasonal cleanups and oversee necessary services such as mowing, leaf removal, and snow/ice management.
Plan and implement major property improvements and renovations. Solicit bids, select contractors, monitor progress, and ensure quality standards and budget adherence.
Manage the church’s property insurance policy, including annual reviews, coverage assessments, and coordination of claims when needed. Monitor the property for potential safety risks and compliance with insurance requirements.
Develop and manage the annual property budget. Provide input on capital needs and long-term planning to ensure sustainable investment in the church’s physical assets.
Engage and supervise service providers, vendors, and contractors. Maintain a list of trusted professionals and ensure all work meets appropriate quality, cost, and timing expectations.
Respond to requests from other committees and ministries to accommodate special needs for events, programs, or functions. Coordinate facility usage, prepare spaces, and ensure the property supports the church’s wider mission and activities.
Report regularly to the church council on maintenance status, project updates, and budget performance. Maintain records of warranties, service agreements, and facility improvements.
